History of BDCP
Bioresources Development and Conservation Programme (BDCP) was founded in Nigeria in 1991. The organization has country programmes and offices in several countries in Africa as well as a Washington DC office in the United States. BDCP's focus is on sustainable untilisation and conservation of biological resources through innovative management and technical support for grass-roots sustainable development projects with special emphasis on projects that promote health, sustain biodiversity, utilize natural products and support traditional healers. Traditional healers, a major custodian of the biodiversity and ethnomedicinal knowledge, are integrated into all projects, resulting in truly unique grass roots efforts. The result of this work has been the creation of a successful drug development and biodiversity conservation programmes, where reciprocity and capacity building are central to the process.
